Research Fellow Job - Viral Immunology

You will be part of the Viral Immunology Group at the Infection and Immunity programme in SICS. The laboratory investigates how innate components influence the adoptive immune response against influenza viral infection and during secondary bacterial infection.
The job responsibilities of the Research Fellow include, but are not limited to, assist in the supervision of postgraduate students, junior researchers where applicable, resolving problems that affect the delivery of research projects, manuscript writing, presentation at conferences, grant writing, training of junior staff in the laboratory and maintenance of equipment in the laboratory.
Requirements:

Job Description

The Research Scientist II is expected to work independently on routine tasks. Principal responsibilities are: development of the reagents and assays for testing of natural product and synthetic samples; automation of assays and high throughput screening; potency and selectivity testing; analysis and interpretation of assay development, high throughput screening and potency data; programming and upkeep of the screening equipment. The Research Scientist II is expected to demonstrate expertise in both the theoretical and practical aspects of screening.?A major component in the scientist's performance rating will be based on productivity, teamwork and cooperation.
RESPONSIBILITIES?
* Assist in the upkeep of automated equipment?
* Develop expertise in the programming of automated equipment and validation of automated methods. The scientist will be able to write and test moderately complex automated procedures under minimal supervision?
* Development of reagents and assays for bioactivity screening and their transfer to robotic systems for high throughput screening?
* Performance of high throughput and secondary screening of sample collections and generation of high quality screening data?
* Analysis and interpretation of assay development, high throughput screening and potency data?
* Development and effective application of a broad spectrum of practical laboratory skills; including molecular biology, cell culture, biochemistry, assay development, in depth analysis of bioactivity data and the use of automated equipment?
* Conduct laboratory operations in a safe manner.?Maintain familiarity with the Chemical Hygiene Plan and Radiation Safety Procedures handbook. Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices.?
* Effectively utilize standard laboratory equipment including hand pipettes, balances, pH meters, plate readers and calculators.?
* Use and maintain equipment in a neat and orderly manner.?Report any malfunction immediately to supervisor.?
* Practice preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and replenish laboratory supplies as stock is depleted to prevent "down-time".?
* Keep accurate, legible and complete records of all experiments and observations. Record all appropriate data electronically in AMRI databases.?
* Submit acceptable written periodic reports.?Prepare summaries of experimental findings reliably and independently.?
* Discuss routinely with supervisor the status of assigned programs and potential problems?
* Communicate orally and in writing unexpected occurrences which could adversely affect established timetables.?
* Manage workload and time to enable the incumbent to perform multiple projects effectively, and ensure all necessary paperwork is completed on a timely basis.?
* Follow responsible actions regarding chemical, radiological and biological disposal.?Maintain compliance with all regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.?
* Volunteer to assist with tasks not directly related to specific projects.?
* Participate in self-development activities and training of others.?
* Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.

Senior Research Assistant

A research position in Molecular Neuroscience is available in the Neuroscience Laboratory at the National Neuroscience Institute (SGH campus). We are looking for highly motivated candidates (BSc or MSc) who have a strong desire to learn and take on intellectual challenges. Applicants should have a strong background in biochemistry, cell biology or molecular biology and prior Neuroscience research experience is preferred.

The successful applicant would be involved in research aimed at dissecting key molecular mechanisms underlying the genetic forms of Parkinson’s disease. Specifically, we are looking for someone who has prior experience in handling mouse models. The research entails characterizing the structural and biochemical properties of proteins encoded by pathogenic genes and elucidate the relationship between these proteins and their interactors. There will also be opportunities for collaborative work with various national and international centers drawing a multi-disciplinary approach that also involves drosophila and mouse genetics, mitochondrial metabolism, and proteomics.
